To end our South African adventure we spent two weeks in a private game reserve in Kapama Limpopo province. The reserve sits spectacularly on the banks of Klaserie and Kampa rivers and is surrounded by the majestic Drakersberg mountains.

We rode elephants, we bush walked and we traveled the reserve to see the African ‘Seven’: Rhino, Leopard, Lion, Buffalo, Elephant, Cheetah and Giraffe. (photos below)

We would tour the reserve early in the morning or at sunset. The days are so hot that the animals would sleep during the day and hunt at night. Our guide was named Bakaus. He of course carried a gun just in case of emergency. It was an experience of a lifetime for me; especially considering my passion for animals.

Our accommodation was at the centre of the reserve. We would open the door to see an Impala eating right in front of us; it was a true bucket list experience. Riding an elephant with a guide was an amazing time too of course.

Seeing baby lions, rhinos playing in the mud, cheetahs, and warthogs; the list is endless! It was like being in a National Geographic magazine.

We ended our tour in Dubai, then back home to Canada.
