My daughter Jessica took photos recently that we thought we’d share on the website. We realized that some of our southern friends and readers don’t get to experience the seasons the way we do in the north.
I’m the first to acknowledge that there are times… like during blizzards… when there may not be much appeal to our northern weather for southerners. But we really do get to experience the seasons, and every year, regardless of how many I’ve enjoyed, I still enjoy the anticipation of the coming season.
I particularly experience this with the fall. Summer’s lovely, but the heat can wear you down. The fall though offers relief from the heat, and you get the spectacular colours along with the cooling and more comfortable weather. By the end of the fall, once the wind has removed most of the leaves, you have the excitement of the holiday season. This must have started as a kid, because snow is a pretty critical part of the whole Santa and his sleigh ritual.
The changing seasons in the north help us to keep life’s various stages in perspective. The approaching winter always reminds us that every living thing, including the leaves on trees, have a natural timeline. They also remind us to enjoy the good weather while we can.
